Web Comic Review for 05/07/2003
Ok, this is the first review of a Web Comic by myself, Shalmdi. For my first pick, I wanted to choose a Web Comic that I enjoy and know will set the bar for all other comics that come after this. I am talking about that bastion of comedy and surprise that is 8-bit Theatre by Brian Clevinger and crew.
If you are a fan of old style gaming or just a fan of RPGs in general, 8-bit Theatre is a blast to video gaming's past. Even if you are not a big video game fan, you can still enjoy the universally hilarious antics of Clevinger's unlikely heroes. Sure, if you never played the game you aren't going to get all the jokes, but you'll still laugh your head off.
8-bit Theatre follows the adventures of the characters from the first Final Fantasy game for the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). Join Fighter, Red Mage, Thief, and Black Mage (great names aren't they?) in their journey as the Light Warriors! But Brian's characters don't just stop with those four. The Light Warriors recieve constant help from White Mage and Black Belt, but beware the evil forces of Garland, Evil Princess Sara, and the Pirate Bikke. These characters are powerful, adventurous, and, more often than not, STUPID! Also, I noticed that the cool little Black Mage bears a striking resemblence to my chosen form.
But wait! That's not all! Come for the comic, stay for everything else!!! Brian does special comics for random topics and other games (Dynasty Memories series)! The Red Mage is giving advice and sarcasm for geeks of all ages and genres! Evil Princess Sara will bless you with her advice column (you lucky dog)! And that's still not everything! I could talk all week about the amazing site and comic that is 8-bit Theatre, but the other gods would not approve :-( If you haven't checked this site out from beginning to end yet then I hope that you are on your way there now!
Site updates are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
8-bit Theatre is rated TEEN for Violence, Language, and Sexual Humor.

Out of 5 Energy Stars, Shalmdi gives 8-bit Theatre by Brian Clevinger
Star 1 Star 2 Star 3 Star 4 5 Stars!!!
5 Energy Stars! A God's Choice Comic!

Comments From the Other Gods:

The 8-bit theater web comic is insanely funny! The best of the old RPG comics out there! I surely wouldn't mind Shalmdi ranting about this for a week. All things from it are worth hearing about.

Anyone who has waded through the epic classic that is Final Fantasy(NES), will appreciate this innovative web comic. While playing Final Fantasy, I often wanted to eat my controller, but after devouring 8-bit Theatre, I found it a little more bearable. I just try to think of Garland's antics and it makes everything better.

Yeah, this is one of the most popular webcomics out there, but if you're reading this, you probably already know this. If not, then I hate you, you philistine. Not only is Brian a master of writing (he's publishing a book), but he's also a master of photoshop. Combine that with one of the greatest games known by just about everyone and then twist it into a farce, and you get 8-bit Theatre.
