Since this review was posted, Demonlogy 101 has completed its run. What this means for all you web heads is this: with the exception of Bonus Chapters, Demonology 101 will no loger be updated. Do not dispare though, the story was great and the conclusion was far better that most that Hollywood puts out. A true ending is a rare thing, but I personally would like to thank Faith for this great story. Thank you.

Web Comic Review for 05/16/2003
Welcome back my loyal readers and hello to all you newcomers. Well, its time to show you mortals that Shalmdi is not all fun and games. No really, I can be serious if I try. On that note, today's review is over the intriguing and often depressing Demonolgy 101 by Faith Erin Hicks. This one might not have you laughing (unless you have a sick sense of humor like me), but it will have you on the edge of your seat!
Faith Hick's little world is similar to our own. Except for the demon army fighting with the forces of good. Oh, and did I mention that the bulk of this fighting seems to revolve around a 16/17 year old named Raven? Yes, as you may have guessed, Raven and her guardian Gabe are not your average family. What is their secret? Well I don't want to give anything away, but you will find out everything after Chapter 1 (Well, almost everything). I warn you though, Demonology has a very intricate plotline and in-depth characters, so do not start reading it unless you intend to finish (four and a half LONG chapters so far).
Demonology is very reminiscent of Japanese mangas (I'm pretty sure it's a big word for Comic Books) in look and feel, but in other ways, it is your typical special-person-saving-others plot line. Sorry to tell you, but I am not a big fan of Buffy (I hope you won't think less of me for it). But I do know its plot (saw the movie and a couple of the early episodes), and I see a lot of similarities. Don't get me wrong, Hicks' Demonology has a lot of original and well thought out stories. I just think that any fan of Buffy, Angel, Charmed, and the like will find Demonology to be a text based version of those TV hits.
Now, you people out there are saying, "But Shalmdi, if Demonology 101 is a well written comic with a good character base and in-depth plotlines, why so low a rating?" Well thank you for asking my friends, and I can sum that up for you in three words: Every Other Sunday. Yes my readers, that is how often Faith updates her site, and it's driving me crazy!! I think that any site that draws its readers in like Demonology 101 should be willing to update at least once a week if not more often. Hey, I have the patience of a god, and I still think this stinks. Do what I do; read the archives, and then check back in a couple of months. It's a good comic, but hardly worth the wait.
Site updates are on every other Sunday.
Demonology 101 is rated TEEN for Violence.

Out of 5 Energy Stars, Shalmdi gives Demonology 101 by Faith Erin Hicks
