Web Comic Review for 07/26/2003
Auuughh!!! It's Saturday! No web comic review up yet! Yes friends, I, Shalmdi, have copletely messed up the delicate balance that is my life by trying to post one tiny Miscellaneous review. So I apologize for the late appearance of this review, and hope that my readers will forgive me for this breach of conduct. Even gods get behind on their duties. The comic of the week is Ctrl+Alt+Del by Tim Buckley. Its a gamming web comic! How original! No, no, don't leave. It's actually pretty good.
Well, you may or may not enjoy this one. Basically, I have enjoyed this comic because I got to watch it grow up. When it first got started, it was profanity mixed with cliche. Also, it used the (see if you can follow this) "making-fun-of-cliches" angle which is ironically also cliche. Personally, the random acts of violence were interesting. I miss the arrow gag, and would like to thank a recent guest artist (Ken Keil) for bringing it back. Then came the first plot. Ahhh, the satisfaction of watching an artist use his skill. Well, it is still a bit cliche, but its funny. Except for Chef Brian. I hate Chef Brian. I won't take off points for this guy, but every time I read it, I feel like I just had a conversation with The Stadholder. This leaves Shalmdi feeling tired, confused, and homicidal. Now you know why I am the unbalanced one of this group. No actually, this comic has a great story. The characters have developed (except Ethan), they have personalities (excpet Ethan unless you count stupid as personality), and it does stay true to its gamer heritage (ESPECIALLY Ethan!!). One more good point, this strip is ever evolving. It hasn't stopped improving, and for me, that is an A+ characteristic. I love a comic strip that knows what its doing, but first you have to find your place.
Alright, enough good stuff. Time to tear up some comics...wait...not much to trash on. Awww. Oh well, this is a good strip, but it does have its bad points. For starters, Ctrl+Alt+Del has not even celebrated its first birthday yet. Youth leaves room to grow, but it lacks the experience born of age. While every comic should seek to improve itself, it would be nice to see a little more consistency. even the updates are random. First it was every day, then every week day, then BACK to every day. Now, I think it's four times a week. Other than that, my only complaint is Chef Brian Sez. This is basically a filler strip cleverly discuised as a regular feature (Shalmdi hate filler!). Kill it and let me watch its death. Yah! Ok, well see ya web heads.
Site update are on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
Ctrl+Alt+Del is rated MATURE for Violence, Graphic Language, and Sexual Humor.
