Web Comic Review for 08/22/2003
Hello my loyal readers and welcome to all you new-comers. It is that time again, and I have a great comic for you this week. Of course, some of you probably aren't reading this. Some of you are probably just using my review section as a big links page to new comics. If you are looking at this page, but not reading this sentence or the rest of my material, I hate you. I know it’s harsh, but they make me so mad. I wish had some cool godly lightning bolts. Ok, the Web Comic to read this week is Nodwick by Aaron Williams. Ahh, making fun of D&D and praising senseless violence. This is what I started reading web comics for in the first place.

Alas, poor Nodwick. I knew him readers. Nodwick, the poor henchman that shares his name with this comic strip is a tragedy. Don't get me wrong; this comic is a comedy. However, the tragedy is the stuff they do to this poor little guy. Nodwick is your typical henchman. He was hired by a small band of adventurers to help with "odd jobs." So far, I have seen these odd jobs include everything from unwillingly knocking down doors with his head, to setting off traps at the expense of his body, to being used as a human projectile (he isn't very big), to carrying back-breaking amounts of loot pilfered from all kinds of naughty people. This poor guy works harder than I do. His employers include a brainless warrior name Yeager, a danger prone and reckless wizard named Artax, and the world’s nicest and most naive cleric named Piffany (What's up with her and duct tape?). From being use as a weapon and a human shield to being duct tapped back together by an oblivious cleric, this poor guy even makes a hateful guy like me feel bad. If he wasn't so funny, I would do something about his plight! Nah, I would probably let him suffer even if his antics weren't funny. It would be too much work to stop it.

Ok, the good points of this comic. It is hilarious. 'Nuff said. Oh wait...I should say more. If you are a fan of D&D or if you just enjoy hilarity set in ye-olden-times, you will be a big fan. Mr. Williams mixes together elements from our favorite tales of elves and dragons with the kind of professional grade jokes and humor that can make any web comic great. None of this would be enough, however, without the original elements than Aaron himself comes up with. His most recent string of comics, The Statue of Limitations Series (I gave it this name, I don't know what he calls it), shows an imagination and ingenuity that makes you wonder whether Aaron is a great writer or clinically insane. Either way, he is my kind of guy.

Alright, now for the bad...I got nothin'. No seriously, the only thing I could fault this guy for is being finance oriented. Mr. Williams only puts out one free "Nodwick" a week (and sometimes he has trouble at that), but he puts out loads of books (all for sale on his site), games based on his comic (mo' money for the artist), and even posts in some gaming magazines (gee, ya think he gets paid for that?). Capitalism is fine, but I do think that if you put out more free comics, you could build a bigger fan base and sell more merchandise. You probably think I am saying this because I love free stuff (actually, love isn't a strong enough word), but the truth is I myself buy a lot of stuff from my favorite comics, but I really can't see myself buying from Nodwick. Not because his stuff isn't good, but because I am not a big enough fan. Sure I love his comics, but how can a weekly strip compete with things like 8-bit Theatre (My favorite strip) when 8-bit updates three times a week. More comics, that is my only request from this excellent strip.
Site update's on the weekend.
Nodwick is rated TEEN for Violence.
