Web Comic Review for 11/14/2003
Hello again my loyal readers and welcome to all you newcomers. The web comic to read this week is Terwilliger's Cafe by Aaron Gallagher. This comic could be considered a diamond in the rough. Ok, basically it is a piece of coal, but it does have the potential to be a diamond if you put enough pressure on it.

Terwilliger's Cafe is based around Cree, his friends, and of course the cafe. I have read all the comics, and I still don't know who/what "Terwilliger" is. Cree seems to be a normal enough guy, but don't hold that against him web heads. Usually, the insanity from TC (let's shorten that name shall we?) comes from the other regular customers in this madhouse that passes for a cafe. We have Ed, the always still performance artist (or corpse) that takes up a few feet of space in the cafe, but does little else; Kolazik is apparently a pot-head that fears the government; Peppy is a small dog on way too much Prozac; and Thor the world's greatest computer programmer and hacker. These guys are completely insane, but I like it.

TC is one of the funniest web comics that I have read in a long time. The plot line and characters are very original and very imaginative. The characters themselves tend to be very one dimensional, but the artist makes up for the lack of depth with an abundance of crazy humor. The ideas in TC are of the wall, and hard to predict. Personally, I can't imagine what kind of mind comes up with this kind of stuff...*cough*psycho*cough*.

Now I can hear you thinking, "But, Shalmdi, if this comic is both original and funny, why did you criticize it at first?" Good question my friends. The problem with this comic is the art and consistency. TC is not the best drawn comic that I have ever seen, and the poor art makes the comic hard to understand. While I have seen improvement from the early days of the comic, Aaron still has a long way to go before he can match up with the web comic greats. On top of the sketchy design, TC also has a little consistency problem. Recently, Mr. Gallagher has managed to stick to a three-per-week schedule, but this might not last long. In the last three years (as of this review), TC has not even posted 100 comics. In case you aren't a math wiz, three years at three comics per week equals about 468 comics. Gallagher is a little bit short.

If Aaron is willing to put a lot of work into his little comic, it could be one of the best. He has the ideas for a good web comic, but he needs to work on his update schedule and his art. Despite my problems with TC, I hope to see good things in this comic’s future.

Site updates are on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday?.
